Recap of WLPC Prague 2024

It was another great WLPC event in Prague. I always feel welcome in this city, especially because of friends like David and Peter. Every time I’ve attended this conference, David has picked me up from the airport, even in the middle of the night. I’m truly grateful for their kindness!

I had the opportunity to teach my favorite bootcamp class, Rockstar Wireless Analysis. Every time I deliver this class in person, I try to enhance its content, and this year I even added some Wi-Fi 7 topics. As you can see, everyone looks pretty content—maybe it’s because the class is over, or maybe they’ve finally learned how to dive deep into frame-level analysis in Wi-Fi! A big thank you to Ferney for capturing this moment and to Sam for being part of the class despite his event-organizing responsibilities!

As everyone expected, Wi-Fi 7 became the hot topic in most of the presentations. I attended the “Wi-Fi 7 Technology Masterclass” a deep dive delivered by Srikanth. I have to admit that Wi-Fi protocol implementations are getting really complex with these advancements. I’m looking forward to going back and getting my hands dirty with Wi-Fi 7 in my homelab! You can expect Wi-Fi 7-related blog posts as I gain a better understanding of it.

Not only did I learn about Wi-Fi 7 from him, but we also became closer friends. That’s one of the beautiful things this conference allows: spending quality time with WLAN pros you enjoy working with.

When the session recordings are available, I recommend going through all the sessions. Here are some of my highlights (not in particular order). I will add the links to recordings when they publish in WLAN Pro Youtube channel.

Like at any WLPC event, you get the opportunity to meet people you enjoy working with. Sometimes, you may only see them in person at WLPC. This is the most valuable aspect of the conference, and you never know how strong the friendships it builds can be. Two wireless Nics 🙂 at Cisco have helped me many times in the past. I had not met Nicholas Darchis before, but I met him for the first time during this conference.

Sometimes, you don’t get the opportunity to meet the people who are working behind the scenes to advance Wi-Fi. I had the great pleasure of meeting Dorothy Standley, who has led many IEEE 802.11 working groups. I was grateful for the chance to say thank you to her in person.

During the Wi-Fi 7 testing event organized by Jim Palmer and Phil Morgan, Tomislav from Croatia came up to me and said my blog inspired him and helped him achieve his CCIE-Wireless (#59996). I felt a great sense of pride knowing I could inspire others on their wireless journey. Sometimes, you connect with people and quickly become strong friends. Even though I met him for the first time, I felt like we were friends who had known each other for a long time.

As the key person behind this conference, I am grateful to Keith Parson, as well as to people like David Coleman, who attends most of these events (whether in the US or EU) and inspires others.

Last but not least, I have to express my gratitude to Chris, who trusted me and provided continuous opportunities to grow in past 8 years. He always treats me like one of his family members. Whether in the US or EU, he takes care of me. I’m glad we got to spend time together with his family as well.

Looking forward to another great WLPC event in Phoenix in Feb 2025
